Orange Julius

When I was growing up, my mom would always get her & I an orange julius when we went to the mall. It was such a fun treat. I hadn't had one in forever and then I came across a recipe for them on Sweet Savory Life and it took me right back to my childhood! I knew I had to try my hand at making one very soon. Turns out there are a ton of great orange julius recipes out there! Some used egg whites, but that made me a little nervous so I opted out of that. I found another great recipe in this article on associated content. I decided to roll with that one and had my orange julius this morning with my breakfast cookie a la Fitnessista. The orange julius was the perfect way to round out the meal! It had a sweetness from the vanilla and sugar and a nice citrus burst from the orange, plus it was very refreshing! It tasted just like I had remembered. Try either one of the recipes linked above and you will have yourself a treat!

Orange Julius
Serves: 1 large serving or 2 small servings

Ingredients:
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 cup cold water
1/8 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 ice cubes

Directions:
In a blender add ice, orange juice, milk, water, sugar & vanilla. Blend on the chop ice setting for the first 15 or so seconds and then switch to the mix setting & pulse until well blended. Pour into a tall glass, let the foam rise to the top & enjoy the refreshment!
